Pray & Seek
Our Muslim brothers and sisters observed their holy month of prayer and fasting, Ramadan. Fasting, or sawm, is one of the five pillars of Islam and is taken very seriously in many communities in Northern Ghana. I have much to learn about the Islamic faith, but more importantly, more to learn about the people and individuals who put their faith in action through the demonstration of these five pillars. I’ve had the privilege of meeting, talking and learning more from my some community members in Nyankpala as I walk or bike around. During these community visitations, I have also met some Christ followers from Islamic families and their pursuit of missions in their own community. These stories in particular have been an encouragement that testifies how God is alive and at work in the hearts of people of all nations, every tongue and tribe.
During the holy month, the physical reminder of witnessing my brothers and sisters pray and fast with such devotion also challenged me in my own faith. What would our world be like if we who profess faith and authority in Jesus pray and fast with earnest and humble hearts?
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
2 Chronicles 7:14
God’s Provision
Last month, I mentioned the roofing project that was initiated by the community members of Suburini for their school. They had collected 700 Cedis as a community towards their 3000 Cedi target. Through the generosity of some personal donors, we were able to contribute another 1000 Cedis. We prayed and trusted God for the remaining 1300 Cedis, asking God to provide the completion of the roof before the rainy season downpours. In God’s perfect way, the community was able to collect an additional 300 Cedis and I had received another 1000 Cedis from a personal donor, meeting the exact budget needed to complete the roofing. On top of that, the day they completed the roof was also the same evening Suburini experienced their first heavy rainfall! We praise God for His provision.
God bless you as you continue to pray for me and support our ministries in Ghana. It has not been easy navigating my first year and a half in new territories and I feel as if I am continuously finding my way around. However, I rest in His assured grace and wisdom and am so thankful for the prayer support, friendship and encouragement I have from people like you! Thank you!
