The Greatest Story Ever Told
What’s the greatest story you’ve ever heard? As followers of Christ, we believe the gospel message is not only the greatest story, but it is transformative and life giving. It’s a story that changes everything and it’s a story that needs to be shared!
This month, we changed things up a bit with our weekday classes on the ECG compound. Each week is themed, using “The Greatest Story Ever Told’s” storyline, taking us from Genesis to Revelation as a guide for our week’s classes. We have Movie Mondays (bible story introduced), Text Tuesdays (English classes), Worship Wednesdays (songs & stories), Thinking Thursdays (Math classes) and Fitness Fridays (mainly dancing, occasional fishing!)- all centered around the topic for the week (Creation, Temptation, Noah, Tower of Babel and Abraham, so far). It has been a learning journey of developing my own flexibility and adaptability, as each day differs from the number of children that come from the community, the time they arrive, their age groups etc.!
The Junior High students completed their exams this month. Prior to their exams, we met weekly for subject revisions. Currently, we are doing a novel study, “The Boy who Harnessed the Wind.” We look forward to watching the movie together when we are done!
Pastor Emmanuel, Mordecai, Enoch and I also went on some visitations around our neighborhood. The friendliness and hospitality of Ghanaians never ceases to amaze me. Even though all of our neighbors in the nearby vicinity are from a different faith background, they are always warm and welcoming. I have spent quite a bit of time with my neighbor’s family next door, plucking peppers on their farm, sitting under their tree where many people congregate, and playing with their puppy. As Christians, all of these actions (big or small) are to be acts of worship to God. It is not easy sharing the gospel and seeing lives surrendered to Christ in an environment where religion is “inherited” and practiced devoutly for many generations. Even Christianity is often practiced religiously, but without the emphasis on a transformed life by the Spirit because of a relationship with Christ. My challenge and encouragement continues to be grounded in the present, flexible in all circumstances, and to “love the one in front of me.”
